Arpad Okay middle eastern digital hardstep. taps into the old school tension of cyberpunk, horror movie edge pushing the vibe up. but there’s a whimsy at work, so it drifts into territory a little more video game than movie soundtrack. despite the threatening veneer, this record is infectious because of its joy and drive. iran in the drum cycles, subtle and powerfully alive, lived, the beats roll. cycles more trance than minimal wave and trance more primary source than reinterpretation. ‘failsafe’ is the new album by Iranian electronic duo, Temp-Illusion (Shahin Entezami and Behrang Najafi). Formed from a culmination of jam sessions and experiments that took place between 2020 and 2022, this work is an offering of contrasts and contradictions, similar to cracking a joke amidst a moment brimming with heft and urgency.

"A fail-safe is a system or mechanism meticulously engineered to proactively mitigate potential accidents or malfunctions in case of unexpected failures. Its primary goal is to create a robust safety measure, capable of minimizing or completely eliminating adverse consequences or damages resulting from a system breakdown. In essence, a fail-safe mechanism functions as a dependable safeguard or backup plan. It is intentionally incorporated into a system's design to quickly and automatically transition to a secure state or carry out predetermined actions, thereby averting hazardous outcomes.

Comedy can also be used as a failsafe strategy or coping mechanism to avert mental breakdowns. When confronted with intense stress, anxiety, or emotional turmoil, engaging in comedy serves as a form of emotional release and relief. Through its ability to offer a temporary respite from serious or difficult situations, comedy can be seen as a means of becoming imperceptible, allowing individuals to momentarily detach themselves from oppressive circumstances, question established truths, and engage in a more nuanced and open-ended understanding of reality."
